Song of the Week: Healer - Torche

A departure from the slow, ambient beats of last weeks song, Healer brings forth a much quicker, aggressive heavier sound. While the band is often criticized for being too poppy by metal fans, and too heavy by rock fans, this song finds an excellent middle ground. Clocking in at just over two minutes, it takes on a notably punk feel, especially with the breakneck drumming of band member Rick Smith.

Song of the Week: Crystalised - The xx

Listen to Crystalised, you will hear something that is too often forgotten in music, Silence. A minimalist song that shows that its not just the sound, the literal note of the music, but the space, the eerie silence that adds depth to that note. A simple warm bass part, contrasting with cold vocals, and simple guitar, makes for a truly chilling wonderful song. I won't lie, I often listen to music with simply too much going on at once, whether it be dueling guitars or a slew of beats, which is why its particularly refreshing to hear a carefully chosen small selection of well done sounds that can powerfully deliver an emotional feeling. Music should be just as much about the silence that follows the note as the next consecutive note, and that silence can add volumes of intensity and urgency to music that noise would only complicate and befuddle.
